Stay Encouraged in the Job Search!

Those of us who have gone through the job search experience know it is easy to lose steam, become depressed, and not invest the time to network, network and network some more. It is OK to have a bad day, but it is crucial to remain positive and focused during the search.

How do you remain positive when so many of the responses you get are not? Come to this month's meeting to find out.

Our speaker, Tim Mante, combines his wisdom and maturity earned from 23 years of law enforcement experience with 8 years of teaching, and a little fun and humor. He is a service driven professional who has a customer service attitude to solve problems in all his work experiences.

His NYPD experiences in one of the busiest precincts in NY City focused on crime scene investigations specializing in robbery and burglary. His skills as a mentor were instrumental in preparing new officers with critical patrol and investigative skills. After leaving the force, he continued to teach and mentor in Criminal Justice at a technical High School and Community College. He has taught numerous courses in Criminal Justice, Terrorism and Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

As an Operations Manager for G4S Secure Solutions since 2013, he was responsible for the daily operations, providing security to a variety of clients including 3 Fortune 500 companies World Headquarters. His focus was insuring excellent customer service with 500 employees across 50 locations in the New York City Metro area. He is currently the Acting General Manager responsible for a $20M budget and all over sight of the staffing and HR process.

Tim has been Blessed on his Spiritual Journey with having too much work, just enough work, and not enough work. The lessons learned from struggling to find meaningful and work have been to remain positive, resilient and tenacious. As an EARN graduate, he gained many valuable lessons, strategies, ideas and opportunities to Stay Encouraged. His aim is to share many of these ideas and strategies with you to buoy you in your job search.

Organized by

is one of Westchester County's perennial faith-based groups specifically designed to assist the unemployed, underemployed and others in a state of career transition. EARN been holding monthly meetings since 1989.

The program was established by a small group of parishioners with human resources backgrounds with the intent of educating attendees about the job search process and by providing them opportunities to develop their networking skills. Essentially, EARN's coordinators help individuals to learn what it takes to uncover job leads and to increase their number of potential contacts. Not an employment agency, EARN provides valuable resources to connect attendees to work, but does not provide job placement.

The monthly meeting has four phases. Initially, there is News You Can Use -- an update on events. This is usually followed by a knowledgeable guest speaker who delves into various aspects of the job search, such as resume preparation, networking, negotiating and interviewing. Third, a coordinator facilitates a formal networking process whereby each participant tells of his/her background, aspirations and job search successes/setbacks experienced over the last month. Finally, informal networking takes place. Attendees do a one-on-one or small group interactions, for example, depending upon what transpired in the earlier networking phase.

EARN also publishes a monthly newsletter entitled Employment Exchange which lists job openings and situations wanted.
